The Lighthouse Tower

At 39 metres (128 feet) high, this 1895 structure is the tallest lighthouse on mainland Australia.

You can only access the interior on a 30-minute guided tour. Children must be at least 4 years old and wear enclosed footwear to climb.

Restored in 2022 by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, the tower remains a working navigational beacon. From the top, you get a clear view of the exact point where the Indian and Southern Oceans meet.

The Viewing Balcony

20 minsHigh wind

This top balcony offers a direct vantage point of the meeting oceans. You reach it after climbing 176 steps on the guided tour. The cape is highly exposed, so hold onto your hat and secure loose items. The wind at the top is often extreme year-round.

The Internal Staircase

10 mins176 steps

A spiraling flight of 176 steps leads to the top of the tower. This climb highlights the intricate 19th-century limestone construction. It is a steep ascent, so use the handrails and pace yourself. Enclosed footwear is required to tackle the stairs.

The Base and Ground Level

10 minsPhoto spot

The tower's base consists of hand-carved local tamala limestone. It provides a striking contrast against the ocean background. Walk around the bottom before or after your tour. This is the best place to capture wide-angle photographs of the entire 39-metre structure.
